How the morning city circuit operates on the ground

The tour gathers at 09:15 at the Kurhaus colonnade near the Passer river embankment. Each guest receives a sanitised compact wireless receiver fitted with an over-ear loop. This allows our guide to speak at conversational volume while visitors step back to photograph 19th-century wrought-iron balconies or examine stone merchant coats of arms without grouping tightly in pedestrian bottlenecks.

From the river promenade, we cross through the stone entrance of the Kurhaus rotunda, reviewing the belle-epoque cure culture initiated by Dr. Franz Tappeiner. We enter the 13th-century Portici (Lauben), walking beneath 800-year-old stone vaulting where medieval trade regulations governed grain, wine, and Tyrolean textiles.

The walk climbs gradually along the stone stairways of the Steinach district to reach the level gravel path of the Tappeinerweg. Here, olive trees, maritime cypresses, and terraced vineyards overlook the red tile roofs of the town centre, framed by the jagged peaks of Mount Ivigna. The entire walking distance is approximately 2.8 kilometres with an elevation gain under 65 metres.
